I just wanted to vent a little about some recent events. It saddens me that there has been another mass shooting. My thoughts and prayers are sincerely with anyone affected by the incident in Washington yesterday.
I’ve always felt that you could never fully appreciate your own life until you’ve seen how other people live. I’ve traveled a decent amount, I’ve spent at least a month on 3 different continents. We are so privileged in the United States and I don’t know if we all see it. I’m happy to have been born in the United States. I love my hometown, Pittsburgh. I have a lot of black and gold pride. I’m proud of where I’ve come from. But I’m so disappointed with the current events. You think maybe these things would happen elsewhere. To have them happen here, in our country, scares me, honestly.
I’m not going to argue about weapons or anything like that. I’m not here to share a political agenda. I’m just saddened that so many innocent lives were lost yesterday and I’m sad that it is seemingly becoming so common.
When I was younger I never could have imagined things like this happening. I thought I was so safe. I remember Columbine was when I was in the 6th grade. After that you’re thinking changed. Suddenly maybe schools weren’t safe.
Now going to school, a movie theater, mall, to work . . . you never know.
It is often after great tragedies that people most come together. I hope that Americans can come together and help others. Be kind to one another. Maybe we need more support for those with mental illnesses. I don’t know the answer. If we did then there wouldn’t be events like this. I think we all just hope that the world will be a better place for the next generation.
I don’t know if empathizing more with others, or being more patient and kind would help, but I think it is a good place to start. The other day I read a good post that made me think on that subject. I think it is worth the read – Be Kind To Others
